Award: research supported by our technology presented at EuroHaptics 2024 and awarded Best Demo Award
Research we supported technically was presented at EuroHaptics 2024, a leading international conference in haptics research. Among the 65 accepted demonstrations, it received the Best Demo Award as the most highly rated.
The work is basic research conducted by the Embodied Media Project at the Keio University Graduate School of Media Design (led by Professor Kouta Minamizawa; hereinafter “KMD”) as part of Project Cybernetic being. It was presented by Horie and Umehara of commissure in their capacities as a KMD project assistant professor and a KMD master’s student respectively.

Embodied Media Project, Keio University Graduate School of Media Design
The Embodied Media Project at the Keio University Graduate School of Media Design creates future media technologies that record, share, extend and create the many experiences people have through their own bodies. Seeing, hearing, touching: by understanding and working with embodiment in the interactions between people, and between people and things, the project generates new bodily experiences that lead to enjoyment, surprise and comfort.

About Project Cybernetic being
“Development of Cybernetic Avatar Technologies and Social Infrastructure for Embodied Co-creation (Project Cybernetic being)” (lead institution: Keio University Graduate School of Media Design) is a research and development project under Goal 1 of the Moonshot Research and Development Program, “Realization of a society in which human beings can be free from limitations of body, brain, space, and time by 2050”. It develops cybernetic avatar technologies that let people make the most of their abilities and share the varied skills and experience of many different people. Taking into account the institutional and ethical questions raised by using one another’s skills and experience, it aims to build social infrastructure for circulating bodily skill and experience in harmony with people and society.
